Unilever inaugurates OMO liquid detergent production line in Saudi Arabia

The new production line for OMO liquid detergent has been inaugurated at the Unilever manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.

Unilever has inaugurated a new OMO liquid detergent production line in Saudi Arabia in 2026, expanding its local manufacturing capacity while integrating recyclable polyethylene (PE) packaging bottles for the product range. The facility was launched to strengthen regional supply chains and support sustainability goals, with the detergent packaged in recyclable plastic bottles produced through a more localised packaging supply network. By manufacturing and packaging the product within the Kingdom, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported packaging materials, shorten logistics routes and support more circular packaging practices in the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

A notable aspect of the project is the integration of recyclable packaging formats for the OMO liquid detergent range. The products manufactured at the facility are packaged in polyethylene (PE) bottles designed to be recyclable, reflecting the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce packaging waste and support circular material flows.

The move also highlights a growing emphasis on localising packaging material sourcing within Saudi Arabia. By procuring packaging components and related materials locally, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on imported inputs and strengthen regional supply networks. Industry observers note that localisation of packaging supply chains can contribute to improved supply security, shorter lead times and lower transportation emissions.

In addition to packaging materials, the project is expected to encourage the development of a broader ecosystem of suppliers linked to detergent manufacturing and consumer goods packaging. This includes bottle production, packaging components and associated raw materials used in the filling and distribution of liquid detergent products.

From a packaging industry perspective, the development reflects a wider shift among FMCG manufacturers operating in the Middle East towards sustainable packaging solutions combined with regional supply chain integration.
